Why Adoption?

Many people have asked us, "Why did you decide to adopt?" And all we can say is that it's been a God thing.

As I look back, I can see that God had been preparing my heart for adoption since high school and while we were dating Seth and I talked about adoption as something that we wanted to do at some point in our lives. Fast forward a few years...Seth and I have been married a couple years and are praying about the possibility of adoption. How? When? Where? Questions that seemed overwhelming and impossible to figure out.

One night Seth had a dream. He sat up in bed very shaken and said he had a very vivid dream that we are going to adopt a baby and its going to be in two years. From that night on we both just knew that this was in God's plan for our lives. Sound a little weird...don't worry we kept questioning it too. But God put a love for a child in our hearts that we couldn't explain. Again we asked the questions of how, when, and where? And just like that the doors started opening. We had one very hard decision, walk through or run away....little did we know we were about ready to start out on the craziest ride of our lives!

People who we had never met before started talking to us about adoption. One particular man I met at a training for work gave me the names of the local agencies his family had used. One no longer did adoptions and the other had a huge waiting list. They gave us the name of some other agencies. We started the application for one and then ended up getting in a disagreement about what picture to send with it, so we never finished it. Sounds really silly now but we truly believe all these puzzle pieces led us to Malachi.

Seth and I started questioning how to make sure the agency we went through practiced and believed in the same moral standards that we did. For a little while we felt stuck in a rut and questioned our decision. About this time I started to notice posts about Faithful Adoption Consultants on Facebook, a christian based organization that walked you through the adoption process. We looked into this group more, prayed about it, and our application was accepted 8/18/16. That is when the long process of paperwork and document collecting began. That is also when God took us on a whirlwind of life change. We started renovating my grandparents farmhouse, moved, both started new jobs, and began the process of adoption all within a month. As our consultant Sabrina said, might as well get it all out of the way at once! We were on our way to adopting and it just "happened" to be two years after Seth's dream....well, we know it didn't just happen. God was leading us right to our baby. But that's a story for another time 😊
